Livin’ By His Wits

From time to time, an author produces a novel which takes readers pleasantly by surprise.   Norman Green succeeds in doing that very thing in his Way Past Legal.  In presenting Manny Williams, an ex-con, he introduces readers to a character who’s extremely clever.

Manny puts his ability to think quickly on his feet to good use, as he seeks to obtain custody of his only child–Nicky–and turn away from a life of crime.  As he sets off on this new path in life, he encounters quite a few obstacles to overcome.

It’s his ingenuity in meeting and tackling those obstacles that causes readers to cheer him on in his efforts.  He’s very adroit in avoiding physical violence and finding creative solutions to problems.

Further, his philosophies of life (based on what he’s observed in his dealings with others) ring true and provide exquisite food for thought for readers.

Way Past Legal is not a typical criminal tale.
